Worth Considering A Euro Account?
April 29th, 2008 - Sandra MarshallWith the Euro continuing to strengthen, expats with fixed incomes coming from the UK may want to think of a way of ensuring that things don´t get any worse. Whilst life may be cheaper here in Almerimar for one, it is still concerning, and maybe time to look at how to make the most of the currency exchange rate for the future:
“If your pension is paid from the UK in sterling and you have concern that the euro will continue to strengthen, then it is worth considering the use of a euro account for the majority of your cash savings and a home for your regular monthly pension payments. The problem in the past was that most euro accounts provided very low rates of interest. There are now some exceptions including Zurich Bank International, which provide a good rate of interest of 4.25 per cent from a minimum deposit of €5,000 within the Euro Reward Account.” The Telegraph
AND remember that if the Bank Of England continues to cut interest rates Euro accounts may start to look even more appealing!
However the pound may start to strengthen again to partly address the problem, so one expert in the article says: “My advice, however, is not to put all your eggs in one basket. Exchange rates are forever changing and in time it is likely that the pound will begin to strengthen. It therefore pays to undertake a regular review of your funds to ensure that they are correctly placed with regards to investment risk and currency.”
