Who Needs A White Xmas?
December 10th, 2007 - Sandra MarshallOk so this is only telling us what we already knew but it seems a cold white Xmas is not really what lots of people are looking for now. What people seem to want after a busy year and lots of last minute shopping is a couple of weeks of rest and relaxation somewhere warm!
“An increasing number of Britons are choosing to spend Christmas in countries such as Spain, it has been revealed. TravelRepublic.co.uk stated that rather than sit round the fire over the festive period, many people preferred to leave the country for a sunnier alternative.
The online travel agent said that Spain was the one of the most popular destinations for Christmas holidaymakers. Meanwhile, Egypt and Portugal were also found to be attracting a significant amount of people from the UK.
Commenting on the findings, Paul Furner stated that many travellers were choosing to spend as long as two weeks abroad. He said: “People need more than a few days of pounding the pavements sightseeing and shopping to recharge their batteries.”
The research follows a similar study by Co-operative Travel which found that more than three million people are expected to travel abroad this Christmas.”
Here in Almerimar the options at Xmas are even better! Not only do we have the sunshine but if you want a white xmas too, the snowline is only an hour away. Our Boxing day tradition if we haven’t over indulged the couple of days before is to drive up into the mountains and have a trudge, followed by a warmming bowl of soup and glass of red wine!
