Welcome Back Al-rruz

February 22nd, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

Just back from a very pleasant girlie lunch @ Al-rruz, which opened again yesterday after its owners’ yearly holiday.

Windy weather again so we sat inside and chilled out with some big glasses of red wine! Normally when we have lunch at Al-ruz we go for a salad and some racciones, and today Ines recommended the garlic mushrooms, but we were in a ‘big eat’ mood, which is an expression one of my old US friends uses. We ended up ordering a mixed paella for 2 which really hit the spot. I complemented Jaun Carlos and said I was pleased he hadn’t forgotten how to cook!

With our first glass of wine, Ines brought us a beautifully presented new tapa of mild goats cheese on a slice of tomato on bread, with anchovy and pesto, and while we waited for our paella we had some very good home made tortilla.

Needless to say after all that we weren’t up for a postre, but we did have coffee and a complimentary honey rum to finish our lunch.

For anyone who hasn’t been to Al-rruz, it is located in the busy Square of Almerimar. They specalise in paellas and great steaks, but also have fresh fish, good wines and racciones, postres, in fact just about everything a good Spanish restaurant should have.

About Almerimar

Almerimar is located in the region of Andalucia, Spain. The nearest airport is 30km away in Almeria. Other airports that are within 3 hours include Malaga, Murcia, Granada, and Alicanti. Other holiday resorts in the region include Mojacar , Aguadulce and Roquetas de Mar

Almerimar is a great place to live as an expat amongst the expats, or to work amongst the Spanish. There are all kinds of properties including villas, apartments and town houses for rent or sale. It is a very traditional part of Spain, with traditional Spanish foods so if you plan to travel to Spain either to look for jobs, for your company to trade with companies in Spain, or to learn Spanish and enjoy the Spanish weather then come and take a look.

I must admit, I have tried most of the restaurants in Almerimar on numerous occasins, but we have never eaten at Al-Rruz. However, after reading your post, I look forward to trying it out at the next available opportunity. My only dilemma will be what to choose. The paella sounds good at the moment!

  2. Chris Marshall Says:

You should try the Steak - best in the area by a long way!!! We get our meat from the same butcher in El Ejido.

  3. Pete & Janet Hammond Says:

Always a favourate of ours when in Almerimar, looking forward to
our return in march for a long weekend will certainly be visiting
to enjoy a steak and watch Almeria thrash Barcelona.

  4. Chris Marshall Says:

That would be an amazing double for Almeria!!!

  5. Francis Says:

Well, they are at home so anything is possible! There is even talk of qualifying for Europe next year, but I think that may be a little premature.
Unfortunately the same can’t be said for Poli Ejido, who are languishing at the bottom of the second division. Muy pobre.

    Viva Almería!!

  6. Chris Marshall Says:

Europe would be amazing to say the least!!!!!

I remember a number of years ago when Poli Ejido had a good start and missle season and there was hope they would get into La Liga - now that would have been totally amazing.

  7. Pete Hammond Says:

Would anyone know if the game is going to be shown on the telly,
so we can sit and watch it while we eat our steak in Al-Rruz or
is there any chance of getting tickets on the day before the game.

  8. Chris Marshall Says:

As the match is scheduled for the 16th March (Sunday) I doubt that Al-rruz will be open as they normally close on a Sunday evening and all day Monday during the winter BUT as it is such a big game then maybe they will open. I will find out, or maybe Innes will read this and comment …….

If not it is a fair assumption that it will be on in Cafe H@cker as they are huge Barca fans!!!

As for tickets, I wouldn’t like to say - certainly not at face value. They are available Online if you have the cash and the inclination!!!

Sounds like maybe we should try and set up a few drinks all together for the evening?

  9. Chris Marshall Says:

So a good result for Almeria!!! Did you get to go and see it, or did you watch in a bar?

  10. Pete Hammond Says:

We could get tickets on the day but at 90 euros each and as there was 5 of us we thought we could use the money better on food and drinks for the weekend.
We ate at Al-rruz on Saturday night and yet again were not disapointed great food and excellent service at a good price.
On Sunday we soaked up the sun had Tapas for lunch at La Pasta then took your advise and went to H@cker later to watch the match,(and play with their little son) Great atmosphere and a great result for Almeria.
Anyway back in England,It,s snowing and only 2 degrees above freezing. I hope you realise how lucky you all are to live in such a fantastic place as Almerimar.
We will be back in May for more sun and great food and drink, see you then prehaps!!
