Watch Those Trips To The UK
November 28th, 2007 - Sandra MarshallWhoever thought the pre-budget report would affect British expats?
“Expats who are non-resident in the UK will have to start being even more careful about how many times they travel back and forth from Britain within the financial year.”
This is all to do with the new proposed £30,000 levy on foreign nationals who live in the UK. As a result of these plans the rules are going to be tighter on the amount of days you will be allowed to spend in the UK before you are classed as resident.
This is 91 days, but currently does not count the day you arrive and the day you leave the UK. From April 2008 however this will change, so expats who make frequent trips back to the UK may have to be more careful, if they don´t want to lose their non-resident status and become liable for UK tax, and possibly even the “non-dom” levy.
