Visit to the Dentist

February 17th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Jacqui shares with us her recent experience at the dentist!

I had an appointment at the Clinica Dental today which is nearly next door to Mercadona. A part of one of my fillings had come out so I decided to try out the local dentist.

I popped in to book an appointment on 13th Feb in the afternoon. I was impressed with the service and at how modern and clean the interior of the clinic was. The dental nurse/receptionist was very friendly. Although she didn’t speak very much English it was easy enough to be understood. It was also a good opportunity for me to practice my Spanish and I managed to give her my details to book an appointment without using too much English.

My appointment was for 11.30am the next day, and I arrived on time and only had to wait 5 minutes before being called in to see Dr.Antonio Núñez Delgado. He spoke good English and also, so he told me, German. His surgery was equipped with all the latest technology.

First, he took some x-rays before he started work on my filling. After an injection and a 5 minute wait for the numbness to kick in the drilling began. My treatment was completed by 12.15pm. Total cost was 75 euros which included the x-rays, plus a large white filling.

He advised me, after looking at the x-rays, that I had a couple of other fillings that would also need replacing during the year as they were starting to show cracks. I will be booking another appointment in a few months time.

For anyone looking for dental treatment, I would recommend this dentist in Almerimar.

Sounds like a relatively smooth and efficient service. The price seems about right and the appointment system appears better than most places that I can think of. We try to run our practice to the same kind of standards here in the UK, but I am afraid that there are a few too many beauracratic hurdles that we have to overcome while working under the NHS system. We did intend to set up a practice in Almería (and still might do). It would be a pleasure to be able to work under the reduced stressful conditions that you describe.
    Here’s hoping.
    Suerte
    Francis.

Really useful article Jacqui. I’m off to my NHS dentist in the UK in May, but great to get a recommendation for a good local one here. Isn’t it brilliant that virtually everything is on our doorsteps here?

    visit to the dentist.
I had to visit the Dentist urgently last Wednesday - rang up and saw Gustavo the Argentinian Dentist at 8.00 pm the same day.For once didnt have to wait more than 10 minutes - into see him, sat in the chair for 5 minutes whilst he examined me and out with a prescription - cost of 40 euros - which I thought was a bit pricey - but where else could you get to see your Dentist the same day.I will have to go back again hopefully sometime on Monday as I still have a problem.I have always found Gustavo to be an excellent Dentist who certainly knows his stuff and has a surgery packed with all the latest equipment.he speaks perfect English and is a very amusing guy.

Great to hear about another dentist Pam. I understand Gustavo is in El Ejido. Do you have his address and telephone number for us?

Visit to DentistGustavo’s tel.no. is 950 484 151 and he can be found at the top of the main street in El Ejido - cl.Malaga, 1st turning after the big garage on the righthand side - unfortunately that is a no entry so you have to do a right just before the garage and work you way around.I have another appointment this evening at 8 pm so will get his full address then.

Re: Visit to the Dentist in Almerimar, thanks for the posting it was reassuring to hear that someone had had a good experience before I visited. A large part of my rear tooth broke away the other evening, a visit to the dentist in Almerimar the next day, had it fixed and saved me a lot of worry. The Dentist was great, very professional and caring.

Good to hear, although sounds painful!!!!

  8. Francis Says:

It is good to hear of a relatively caring dental service that is able to see a patient within a day, and remedy the problem within a short period of time. I have never practised in Spain, but it sounds as though it is a world apart from the lack of accessibility that appears to be the situation in some parts of the UK.

It has reinforced my hope to finish my career in the warmth of Almería (on a part time basis….of course!)

  9. Chris Marshall Says:

That sounds like a plan :)
