Update on internet access in Almerimar
January 25th, 2008 - Chris MarshallFurther to the information already on the site, here is a update on the current state of internet here in Almerimar.
1. The current Vodafone USB modem works with Macs as well as Windows PCs. The installation process is not as slick as you have to download and install drivers and set up networking parameters in the operating system on the Mac. Whereas the device is self installing on a Windows machine. However, once installed the device works fine.
2. Vodafone are just launching their next generation of USB modems so the stocks of the current usb modem have nearly run out in PC City in Roquetas (the only place I have been able to buy the devices on a pay as you go basis rather than contract).
Once the new devices are in stock in PC City I will update the article and publish it again as I think there will now be two Vadofone options. One of which can be used at the higher speed of 7.2Mbps. The other being a smaller device similar in size to a memory stick.
