This Week In Almerimar 080331

March 31st, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Sands has just got back from recording the Net again, where she discussed the success of the Treasure Hunt. The fund currently stands at an impressive 1.200€, with a number of collecting tins still in the bars. If you would like to have a collecting tin to help the fund please let us know and we will arrange to drop one down to you. You can hear what Sands had to say and the whole of the Net recording here.

Many thanks to everyone that has expressed an interest in the Poster. We will get them to you as soon as possible i.e. this week, but don’t forget that you can download it directly as well.

Ironically I was getting tempted to play golf with our neighbour and a friend that I used to play with all the time (well it was seeming a good idea on Saturday when I was talking to them after a few beers!) this week based on Sands previous post but as fate would have it they have told me that the 9 holes that make up the first 9 of the Master course will be closed for the week as they are hollow tining the greens, whatever that means? I think it means that the greens will be full of holes and squiggly sausage type things. In a way this doesn’t make a huge difference as they are going to be starting on the 10th and then playing the ‘old 9′ which is the 9 that I really fancy playing, but I can’t be bothered with all the messing about on buggies. They did that a couple of years ago when they dug up the course, and it was all a bit messy and the course flowed even worse than normal. Result = going to give it a miss and have a think when I get back from Dubai.

Taking of golf we have signs of life again at the ‘Golf Hotel’. One of the rugby boys is involved in the architecture of the hotel so we will get more information as and when, but the reality is that it wont be until the end of 2009, and in all probability the roadworks around the port will continue. That said the improvements that they are making are great. I drove down and parked at the end of the West beach (by the music bars) last week for the first time in a month and they have done a really good job with the new layout and parking spaces.

We have added a new Google Calendar to the site to show the events, so will be updating that this week, and you can submit items directly to the calendar if you want, but until we get it fully updated here are a few items of interest for this week:

  • Bulles on the West Beach today
  • Quiz Night Wednesday in Espignon at 8pm
  • Thursday Line Dancing at the Espignon at 3pm
  • Yachtie get together at Ankara on Friday night
  • Book & DVD exchange at La Bahia 11am Saturday morning. Books to be sold as well

As for us I think we are going to have a quite week as I need to get back on track after being ill for a couple of weeks and need to get ready for another trip to the UK and Dubai. I have a load of people that I said I would talk to about the site this week, so will be out and about more than usual in that respect, and hopefully I will get a few runs under the belt towards the end of the week, along with another photo trip with John Witham. So a busy week as usual!
