A number of years ago when we first started thinking about buying a property in Spain and had found Almerimar we were recommended to buy a book called “You & the Law in Spain” written by David Searl. David Searl is a legal writer, broadcaster and lecturer in Spain.

The review of the book on Amazon says “It deals with: moving to Spain; resident or tourist? Buying and selling property; building a home; letting and renting; taxes on property; you and your car; you and your money; Spanish income tax and other taxes; working and starting a business; employing others; birth, death, marriage and nationality; Spanish wills and inheritance tax; your legal advisers; you and the Spanish authorities; how to complain; you and your community; the law of horizontal property - in plain English; and much more!”

This book has been incredible useful to us and we recommend it very strongly. It costs about £20 but is well worth the money.

One issue to be aware of is that the law changes here on a regular basis so the book is updated and republished every year or so. For this reason we haven’t put a link to the Amazon review here or details of the ISBN.

If you are thinking of buying a copy the best thing to do is to search for the title in the books section of Amazon and check for the latest edition.
