The Doors

April 13th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

I watched The Doors last night here in Dubai for the first time.

The TV over here is terrible - think America in the ’80s, so I usually copy a few movies over to the Mac that I think I may want to watch ‘just in case’. Last night was one of those nights so I hooked the MacBook Pro to 32″ flat screen TV. Unfortunately I could only connect via PC cable (not DVDI or HDMI) so it wasn’t the best quality, but for this film I don’t think that really mattered.

Shot very much in a ‘documentary’ style as if with a home movie camera a lot of the time, it was a reallygood film with some brilliant acting. It certainly captured the essence of that period (late ’60s) and told the story really well. The music of course was great, but the background to the group and various tracks was really interesting.

If ever there was a flawed genius then it would be Jim. A good film that is well worth watching.

I have to say that traveling with a computer is such a godsend! It is hard to remember what it was like without one to be honest. Not only is it necessary for business naturally, but for entertainment (I have 12 movies, 2000+ photos, over 400 hours of music, and all the video footage we have shot of the cats), news (internet, RSS feeds) and communications (Skype, email, MSN, iChat, Google Talk).

I hate to think (or admit) how much time I spend in front of a screen these days, especially when away and wanting to keep in touch more, but I would hate to be without the option.
