The Bulls Strike Back In Pamplona
July 7th, 2008 - Chris MarshallWe have written before about bull fighting and its possible demise and each time we have received comments about how barbaric the activity is.
As such I thought this may bring a smile to a few faces:
One man has died and some 90 people have been injured in the opening hours of Spain’s annual bull-running festival in the northern town of Pamplona. (BBC)
Now to be fair the injuries haven’t been caused by the bulls directly as the man died when he fell from a wall during celebrations on Sunday and most of the injuries came from cuts and bruises from falling over or taking part in festivities.
But as I see it this if people hadn’t gone to see the Bulls chased and then fought they wouldn’t have got hurt so the Bulls have struck back!!!
Running With The Bulls
- The festival, which has been held since 1591, was made internationally popular by Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises
- At least 13 people have been killed since record-keeping began in 1924
- Each morning at 0800 (0600 GMT), up to six bulls and a number of steers are released from a pen into a closed-off street.

- They are then run the 825m (2,700ft) to the bullring, where they will face matadors later in the day.
