I Forgot

July 20th, 2008

I forgot that when we went to the opening of La Barbera I took a photograph of a new supermarket that has opened in the row of bars etc just behind the Espignon. I forgot to go and find out the details of the superkarket. I forget is the name of the supermarket!!! How do [...]

Elegance Closing!

July 20th, 2008

I wrote in December about Elegance , the lovely little gift shop opposite the square in Almerimar. Unfortunately like so many small businesses here, it has struggled and is now closing at the end of the summer. I think this is such a shame as we need interesting little shops to add to what Almerimar [...]

easyJet launches new route from Newcastle to Murcia

June 3rd, 2008

It was interesting to hear the CEO of Ryan Air saying on the TV this morning that they were guaranteeing not to pass on any fuel surcharges to their customers in the next 12 months and that they thought that would reduce this years 420m€ profit to zero next year. It reminded me as well [...]

This Week In Almerimar 080505

May 5th, 2008

Not a lot happening this week really, although should say good luck to Almerimar Insurance Services who open up this week. Maybe that is a good thing after the ‘excitement’ of the I Cruz de Mayo Almerimar II, the El Ejido Ceramics Fair, our wedding anniversary, the inaugural BOF article, and my first game of [...]

El Ejido Ceramics Fair

May 3rd, 2008

Having discovered the Cruz de Mayo in Almeria on Wednesday, I was curious as to whether there was one in El Ejido too, so yesterday after my gym visit, I set off in search, unfortunately to no avail. However I did get the chance to check out the ceramics fair in the town hall square, [...]

Worth Considering A Euro Account?

April 29th, 2008

With the Euro continuing to strengthen, expats with fixed incomes coming from the UK may want to think of a way of ensuring that things don´t get any worse. Whilst life may be cheaper here in Almerimar for one, it is still concerning, and maybe time to look at how to make the most of [...]

Nursery In Almerimar

April 24th, 2008

Thank you to Emma Lane for this great article on the nursery here in Almerimar: “Last September at the ripe old age of nearly 2, we bravely packaged off our little darling to the nursery here in Almerimar. Any parent who has done this before knows that it’s an anxious time especially if like us, [...]

We are always happy to publish, views and insights from readers of the blog on a wide range of subjects. Almerimar Solutions Launched

April 23rd, 2008

Good to see that Lisa has launched her new venture, Almerimar Solutions, with a very noticeable pink flyer. Actually it is more accurately mauve I think, but it is certainly eye catching. Promising ‘At your service when you need it’ and with a nice comment at he bottom saying ‘Don’t throw me away you may [...]

Visiting the Dr in Almerimar when on holiday

April 10th, 2008

Thanks to Pam Roberts for this information: I met a lady from the UK in the Farmacia yesterday who had been bitten by a mosquito by her eye and it was very badly swollen so offered to take her to Dr. Garcia’s surgery- what a performance, she had to produce her European health Insurance Card, [...]

Spanish Economy

April 9th, 2008

We are hearing all the time in the news about doom and gloom in the world economies, but after reading an article in the UK press the other day, I am wondering if Spain is more affected than other European countries, particularly with regard to mortgage debt, and how this may affect people here in [...]

Equido 2008 – 10-13 de Abril

April 8th, 2008

A friend was only commenting today that for a small town El Ejido seems to have a lot going on and this weekend is no exception, as we have the second annual horse show. This is taking place on a special tented concourse opposite and close to the site of the Wednesday market. Basically you [...]

La Barca

April 1st, 2008

One of the great things about The Treasure Hunt on Saturday night from the point of view of the bars involved, was that people came in who had never been before. We all have our favourite haunts, even in a small place like Almerimar, and during the evening, i like probably everyone else, found myself [...]

Fantastic Week!

March 31st, 2008

Happened to listen to The Net (Cruiser) this morning and the weather forecast for this week is FANTASTIC! with sunshine all the way. Today we are promised a high of at least 18, building to 20 by Wednesday, and 22-23 at the weekend. I did half hear something about winds, but in a sheltered spot [...]

Adra – Rock Concert

March 31st, 2008

Just heard this morning from a reliable source that there is a concert in the port of Adra this Saturday. Apparently about 15 local ‘rock’ bands will be performing. Sounds interesting if I can drag Chris down there! Adra is actually only about 20 mins drive from us here in Almerimar, so if anyone fancies [...]
