Stormy Waters & Breakfast at La Barbera in Almerimar

December 1st, 2008 - Chris Marshall

On Saturday we had breakfast at La Barbera which is fast becoming one of our favourite places to have breakfast ( 4 cups of coffee, a bottle of water and 2 Jamon y Tomato tostadas for 7€) as it is nice to get out of the square, watch the sea, and be surrounded by the chatter of the locals. We had a few things to discuss with Paco:

but mainly we just wanted to sit and talk about a few things. With the weather so bad (wet, windy and cold) over the last 4 or 5 days the beach was particularly impressive so we braved the elements to grab some photos and a very brief video:

Today the sun is out and it isn’t wet, but it is still cold and the wind although less is still blowing a fair bit.

Still we have it pretty good most of the year and to be honest it is nice to have it like this ….. good excuse to hunker down with the cats, some wine and a movie of 6!!!

Reminds me of the North Sea in the UK!!!!

  5. Sandra Marshall Says:

Just like to add my bit re. La Barbera. The tostada was fantastic … great quality ham and actually a pleasant change to have what was effectively a thick slice of crusty toast, AND the coffee was strong and served in traditional glass mugs with the hot milk added at the table. Also something that is very refreshing in the times of gloom … Paco is always smiling and welcoming when you go in, and the service is brilliant.

  6. Chris Marshall Says:

A smile certainly helps as I posyted here.

Should have made it clear the water is free, you get a bottle on the table. Again the little things make a big difference.

  7. Mac Sokulski Says:

I remember it fondly… great food, great coffee and great company.

  8. Chris Marshall Says:

Yep, yep, yep ……. funny enough I am going back there today for a meeting. What could be really funny is that the Foro have their meetings there on a Wednesday morning as well.
