Saturday In Almerimar: A Mixed Bag!
June 21st, 2009 - Chris MarshallIt is long time since we had a Saturday like this, basically with nothing specific to do, but a few errands and stuff to get done. Having woken up been woken up at the now usual time of 5m as I posted yesterday to let the little buddies up on the roof, we both slep in until about 9am. Now that may not sound like a big deal to many, but it is a pretty rare event for us these days!
First ‘task’ was to jailbreak the iPhone after upgrading it to 3.0. Next task was to have a fiddle with embedding Google Calendar into Sands Almerimar Life Strays Blog, snd setting it up to sync with her iCal …….. I know, you just can’t believe what an exciting start to the day that was eh!!!
First errand was to go and pick up the replacement seal for the coffee machine. It split about 4 months ago! Anyway some friends were in El Ejido on Thursday and ordered a new one for us. They said the shop would ring on Friday and they did! Picked it up today so 4 months of ‘getting round to it’ and 2 days to get it sorted!
We took the Road King Classic out for a little spin when we were running this errand, and I have to say it is great to have the ‘hog’ back here in Almerimar. Took a little detour to give it a little run out …

Having picked up the seal for the coffee machine it was time to get a late breakfast/early lunch. Haven’t been to La Barbera for a while so we went there (no surprise I know) where I had ……. egg and chips!!!

Egg & Chips at La Babera (3€)
Yep! I had seen a child eatling them a couple of visits ago and as I seem to have picked up an intolerance to tomatoes I thought I would give them a try. Boy they were good. Eggs cooked to perfection, bread and dried bread sticks to dunk in the yolks, and some nice crisp chips to go with them. Cost 3€ which isn’t bad at all. Sands had the usual jamon y tomate tostada and we had two cups of coffee each, total cost 8,50€ which I don’t think is bad at all. We spent about 90 minutes chatting and enjoying the sunshine and the buzz of the beach, which was certainly busy that it has been for the last couple of weeks, but predominantly with Spanish families. It is times that like this that I think what good value Almerimar is. The basics are just such good value, easy to access and everyone does it. Sitting in the sun, drinking a coffee, watching the waves …. what a great way to spend a Saturday.
Back home in time to watch the Lions Test. Although they lost and at one point were getting badly beaten I thought they did OK. They crossed the try line 4 times without registering a try. The referee was correct on every occasion, but the fact is they got into that position and with a little more luck would probably have won. Still they lost so is BIG match next weekend for sure.
Had a siesta on the balcony with a book, then I went and took some video of a couple of the stray cats that Sands thinks have been found a home in Germany.
Watched some golf, ate some food, watched a adequate movie (What Happens In Vegas), played with the cats, had a shower and went to bed about 1am.
Now the point of this post? I just love the ease with which you can do so much so easily here in Almerimar. Having lived in big cities, and over populated counties in the UK where a trip to the supermarket needed planning with military precision, the flexibility, and laid back nature of the way of life here really does make life so much easier.
