Restaurants in Almerimar - Marisqueria Franc

April 28th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

Thanks again to Alex for his thoughts on Marisqueria Franc. This is a restaurant that I have been to once with Chris and the rugby boys, and a couple of times for Tapas. Chris uses it more as it is a favourite of Marcus from the rugby club and he has often dragged everyone to it for a meal after rugby and an afternoon’s drinking!

Chris has always had good things to say about the place, but maybe that is because he has usually been with Marcus who seems to know everybody and everything in Almerimar, although he did point out to me when I mentioned this that the last time we had Tapas there the service was slow and a little surly, although he put that down to the fact that he was really only there to show Lisa and Salvador something on the Mac! I have to say though that I enjoyed the tapas and have said so in a previous post , but I turned up late that day so maybe got the good bit!

Anyway, unlike Alex I would like to go back again …………….. soon Chris if you are reading this.

For now though this is what Alext thought:

Today we had lunch at Marisqueria Franc on Darsena 1. We sat outside in comfortable chairs and spotless table linen. We started with a house salad which was excellent and 1/2 dozen very large fresh oysters (€18). I actually ordered navacas but they didn’t have any. Mary followed with a main course of Gallo Pedro (St Peter’s fish) and chips. The dish was well cooked and enjoyable. I had Cazuela de Rape that was at best “pleasant”. This is a typical Mediterranean way of cooking fish but this version lacked any real character. It should be made with a deep rich fish stock and plenty of herbs and spices. I could not taste any garlic or chilli that is usual in this dish and it was overwhelmed by the tomato and onion sauce. Mary had a glass of Fino followed by a glass of medium white house wine and I had a beer and agua sin gas. 2 cafe solos and a “chopito” completed the meal. The bill came to €90 which was clearly wrong. I pointed out that we had been charged for 3 main dishes the extra being Chuelon de Buey at €21. The waiter removed the bill and it was returned with the correction. There was no comment and certainly no apology. I paid the bill using a debit card and left no tip. All in all we were rather disappointed. Mistakes can be made but the restaurant was not busy, there were plenty of staff and somebody should have checked the bill first. I find this sort of thing unforgivable and will probably avoid using this restaurant again this year.
