Pinchos At La Solea
April 12th, 2009 - Chris MarshallThursday night Sands and I went to La Solea for some food a drink before heading over to the Flamenco At Fusion. We used to eat at La Solea a lot when it was run by Paco who now runs La Barbera which we use frequently.
I recently called into La Solea to talk about the Jornadas Gastronómicas they were involved in and I really liked the way they had decorated the restaurant, and was intrigued by the wine bar like menu of Cold and Hot Pinchos that they offered in the main bar area. Don’t think Pinchos on a stick like a Tapas bar though. Oh no, this is very different from those indeed!
La Solea is not cheap, they know that though as they are trying to offer a gourmet style restaurant here in Almerimar. As such it isn’t going to appeal to everyone, and it certainly isn’t somewhere that we can afford to go to regularly BUT as a reason to get some smarter clothes on every now and again, and to sit in a very plush environment eating excellent food, drinking great wine, and receiving brilliant service it is a great place to go. Back in the UK we lived close to Wimbledon Village and Sands and her girlfriends used to be spoilt for choice with this type of place, and it is certainly the type of place that she would happily go to on a girls night out!
What really impressed me was that the quality and portions of the tapas wasn’t significantly different than the Pinchos that we had. The wine was 3€ a glass, and wasn’t a huge glass by any means, but it was great quality and as you can see below the tapas were amazing. We had three Pinchos as you can see below that cost 3.50€ and 4.00€, so the total bill for 8 glasses of wine (the tapas that is missing below was the plate of cheese we asked for with the last glass) and 3 pinchos was 35€

How The Bill Is Presented

I would certainly go back again, as it was a really nice change! For me that is what Almerimar needs, more choices. They say that they do well with the Spanish business people and more well off from El Ejido, and a number of Germans and French use it regularly, but to date they haven’t really attracted many British people. That is a shame, and if you get a chance and fancy some high quality food in a plush environment then give it a go. It feels like we have stumbled on a little oasis of a place.
If you have been, or you go I would love to hear your views!
