The law in Andalucia makes all strays the responsability of the town hall they’re found in. They are supposed to be taken in, assessed by a third party vet, and either put down if very unwell or savage, or put up for adoption. If they aren’t adopted after (I think) a month, then they can be put down.
In theory, anyone can take any animal to any townhall and leave it there with no comebacks.

That would be fine in the right circumstances, but it seems that they have promised to make more efforts to find homes for them so people take them up in the belief that they are going to be rehoused and instead they just slaughter them.

The picture on the petition web site was pretty graphic!

Do you mean they put them to sleep? Could be because they are over populated, and have no more room, and the adoption rate is low? Still short term planning in my opinion. They should advertise these animals for adoptions.

I’m not sure “sacrificing” is the mot just here, as it implies killing for a deity.

A few years ago I had to call the Guardia out to deal with a couple of rather nasty dogs, an Alsatian and a St. Bernards, which had taken up residence in a bit of land we owned and snapped at anybody who went close to them.

In the end, after a few phone calls, the Guardia discovered that no vet would come out to deal with them as there was a very large outstanding bill with the Diputacion and vets were on strike. They (the Guardia) lured them out with a bit of steak and drove them off into the hills, as their sargent wouldn’t authorise the dogs being shot unless they had bitten someone.
