‘40 watts’, ‘Little Ken’ and ‘Queeg’ (I think his nickname is spelt!) of the ‘Grumpy Old Men Of Los Gallardos’ fished a lake north of Lake Negratin near Baza. They caught a lot of fish just below the Sierras and had carp to 4lbs.

‘Baza Barry’ continues to fish Lake Negratin and says as the water warms he is catching more and bigger fish, this week he caught carp to 6lbs.

The Rods and reels venue again, for this week’s match was the Embalse de Argos at Calasparra. The water level is still very high, and could still be rising, not allowing us to use all the old pegs. The fishing again as last week, was poor, in terms of the amount of anglers catching decent weights. Still, at this time of the year, the pegs that are producing are the deep water pegs at the far end, close to the point. Also the water is very clear with no algae colouring the water. The weather had vastly improved with the sun out most of the day.

1st Ian ( Irish Wizard ) Dalzell fishing the pole using tares with 52lbs.
2nd Lenny (Ex Cultural Attaché) Bolton fishing the pole using paste with 51.5lbs.
3rd Mick (The Arsenal) Hill fishing the pole using paste with 49.5lbs.

This week’s Abbey Angling match was fished on the River Segura.

The water still was still a grey clay colour and was pushing through very fast with all types of debris, reeds, bottles etc.

I am not sure where all the extra water is coming from at present, it is a possibility they are running excess water off the reservoirs to get the levels down before the coming winter’s rain as at present all the Reservoirs are brim full.

Fishing was again patchy with the top three anglers as follows

1st Stan (The Man) Roberts with 25.5lbs on the pole, pellet and maggot
2nd Lenny (Ex Cultural Attaché) Bolton with 23lbs on the pole and maggot
3rd Mike (The Arsenal) Hill with 18.5lbs on pole, feeder and corn, Mike at the moment has found his form and is making the best of it.

All details are available from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on 965328368

‘Pugwash Pete’ tried to get out one day but as usual at the moment he was soon beaten back into the marina by strong winds. (Got to get up earlier boys)

‘Capitano Brian Cuba’ and his partner ‘Admiral Phil’ had a really good day out with well over 50 fish being caught. One of the guys got into a VERY large ‘something’, it fought like mad and really bent a 30lb rod then it took the hook and trace, sad it was interesting. (My monies on a conger)
‘Farmer Rory’, ‘Granddad Alan’ and ‘Grandson Daniel’ caught pouting, pandoras and combers, hake, bogues and a nice red snapper.

See photo of Alan and three pandoras with Daniel looking on and another of Alan and a hake.
See also a photo of Phil with from top to bottom a pouting, comber, pouting.
Another photo is of me with a decent comber.
And lastly a photo of a motley coloured and marked pandora.

‘London Bill’ fished Macenas rocks and had a few small sea bass using a small silver spoon. He says his Spanish mates are still catching some good fish from marks in Villaricos. I heard from a Villaricos angler an 8lb Palomete was caught spinning at the river mouth south of Villaricos.

Anglers Together was formed to introduce and encourage anglers of all abilities to meet up and get together to fish, either sea or freshwater. Firm friendships have been formed during the time the group has been active and information on fishing venues and licenses required are available at the meetings or by regular emailed newsletters.

Anyone with an interest in fishing (sea or freshwater) is welcome to come along to a meeting to see what we’re about.

The next meeting is on Saturday 9th of July at 12 o’clock the meeting will be held at The New Royal Bar and Restaurant at El Alamillo, opposite the sea-front between Isla Plana and the Port. (Mazzaron)

The Albox Fishing Club meets every two weeks on a Wednesday, check out when the next meeting is at the Azafran Bar.
