Mobile Phone Addiction In Spain
June 15th, 2008 - Chris MarshallWould have thought this would have been one for BOF wherever he is these days??
Two children in Spain have been admitted to a mental health institution to be treated for addiction to their mobile phones, Spanish media report.
The children, aged 12 and 13, were sent to the clinic by their parents, who said they could not carry out normal activities without their handsets. They were doing badly at school and lying to relatives in order to get money to spend on their phones.
It seems that three months into their treatment they are showing signs of improvement.
Just how sad is this!!! It is true that the mobile phone is a godsend in so many cases, but when it removes the ability (or need) for traditional activities, conversation and creativity then surely ‘enough is enough’.
I was a particularly heavy mobile phone user back in the UK when working, but these days I hardly use it at all - most use is for video and twitter for this blog - and many days I forget to even take it with me, or charge it up. Personally I detest sitting with people who are texting theor mates, or holding a conversation with a friend - either concentrate on the people you are with, or go and be with the people that you are communicating with by phone.
