Los Gallardos PAWS Cat Rescue BBQ

Earlier today Sands and I went up to the Paws Cat Rescue Annual BBQ and Fund Raiser at Camping Los Gallardos just outside Mojacar.

The day was a mix of small stalls selling books, second hand clothing, cosmetics, accessories, and general household and personal bits and pieces. None of the stalls were very big, all very informal, and all seemed to work well.

The BBQ was exceptional. The chicken was moist, perfectly cooked and huge, and the sausages, burgers, onions, pasta salad, potato salad, salad and baked potato meant no one went hungry, and if they did they had some amazing home made deserts and biscuits that they were selling for 50¢ to 2€. You could also buy them to take home along with jams, pickles, spices etc.

During the day they had demonstration line dancing, a couple of local singing groups and a fashion parade to show off the second hand clothes that they were selling.

It all seemed very organised, but they have been doing it for years and Camping Los Gallardos has to be a perfect location for such an event.

The main reason we went up was to meet up with more of the PAWS Cat Rescue ladies, who were especially pleased to see Sands as she had news on the four cats that Sands had liased with to get rehomed in Germany. This was the first of what I will suspect will be many as the synergy seems great: the PAWS Catery can be used to temporarily home cats from Almerimar, and being closer to Alicante it opens up that airport as a viable flight partner airport for the Almerimar cats. The cats had all arrived safe and sound and the ladies certainly appreciated the communication that Sands had provided. No doubt Sands will expand on that on her blog www.alstrays.com in the near future.

There was certainly a lot of food and a lot of food for thought …….. more later, for now enjoy the photos and thanks to David and his staff at Camping Los Gallardos and the PAWS Cat Rescue ladies for making us so welcome.
