Monday morning Spanish: 10 phrases to try out for this week and more grammar tips:

Phrases:
¿Qué quiere (usted) decir “X” en español? - how do you say “X” in Spanish?
¿Puede deletrearlo? - can you spell it?
¿Puedes escribirlo para mi? - can you write it for me?
¿Cómo? No entiendo - what? I don´t understand
¿Puedes repetir? - can you repeat?
Más despacio, por favor. Solo hablo un poco español - slower please. I only speak a little Spanish
¿Qué quieres beber? - what do you want to drink?
¿Vino tinto o blanco o quizás una cerveza? - red or white wine or maybe a beer?
Tengo hambre. Vamos al restuarante nuevo - I´m hungrey. Let´s go to the new restuarant
Necesito ir a las tiendas. ¿Quieres venir con migo? - I need to go to the shops. Do you want to come with me?

NB. note the 2 forms of the verb for do ‘you’ want: Quiere (usted) is the polite form addressing someone you don´t know well. Quieres with an ’s’ is the less formal form for friends and family. In the phrases above another example is puede / puedes.

NB. In the 2nd and 3rd phrases note the ‘lo’ at the end of the verb, which means ‘it’. This is very common in Spanish. Also note that it is only the first verb in each of these phrases that is conjugated. The second verb stays in the infinitive.
