The Lost Breakfast
November 14th, 2009 - Chris MarshallYesterday I was meeting Dave from The Reader for a coffee and a chat. Now over the year I have learnt that this is really code for let’s drink all day, so I thought I would be smart as more often that not we end up drinking for hours, eating tapas all day, and then never really getting round to a meal.
So as I drove down to meet Dave I had a plan!!! I rang him to say that I just had to pop into the bank, but I was then going to Ankara to get some breakfast, so why didn’t he meet me there. As I parked in the Square I saw Dave having a coffee in Mac Gowan’s so I stopped to say hi and remind him (because it was all of 5 minutes since our phone call) that I was going for breakfast!
In the bank I bumped in Salvador who suggested a coffee in Ankara, so it was all looking good!
Salavador and I ordered a coffee, then Dave joined us and I asked him what he wanted for breakfast ….. then he dropped the bomb shell that he was off to Almeria for Sushi, so I was off the hook ……. no all day drinking for me!
I was just considering what to have for breakfast when some bright spark suggested a quick beer! Now it just so happened that yesterday was the first day that Anakara were offering Tapas (available from 2pm – 6pm). They are charging 2€ for a beer or wine with Tapas or 1,60€ as usual for a beer without Tapas. It was only 1pm but Ray offered up a Tapas.
A couple of beers later Dave left for Almeria and his date with some raw fish, and Salvador and I carried on chatting. A few more beers, and then he left but that was OK, Sands was now coming down to try the excellent vegetable curry Tapas (in fact she liked it so much she had a plate of it with a Naan bread for lunch).
As for me ………… beer and tapas! I became the official Tapas critic for the day which meant that I had to sample them all, several times:
- Home made cottage pie
- Home made vegetable curry
- Home made chilli con carne
- Garlic Mushrooms
- Cajun Chicken
- Onion Rings
- Potatoe Skin With Beans & Cheese
All very nice but I will say that the Home Made ones were by far the best, and it was nice to have Tapas that was different from the usual options that if I am honest can become a little boring!
More friends arrived, more beer and tapas and as you will have gathered by now …… no breakfast!!!
Had to call in and drop some papers off for Phil at Fusion, then it was home for some food ……….. well that was the plan. Thought we would pick up some chicken from Asador but at 7pm we were too early as they were shut. Back home then I thought would just lie on the bed with the cats and watch some TV before getting some food ………… fell asleep.
Which brings us to Saturday morning, and ………………. breakfast!!
Sands has just left to the car boot sale, the cats are up on the roof playing, and I am off to make a bacon sandwich. I may be a day late, but at last I have found my breakfast!
Only in Almerimar eh ………..
