Over 2,000 people flocked to the station on it’s first day open.

1,7km of pistes have been opened to the public, with the total amount expected to raise to 3,5 km over the next few days.

The dry winter so far has been a far cry from last years bonanza, and snow making machines have been operating constantly to ensure enough snow is available for the tourists.

Cetursa, the ski station operator, was forced to limit passes to the first 1,000 skiiers in order to prevent the destruction of the snow on the pistes. However, Cetursa are confident that over th next few days restrictions will be lifted and more pistes opened to the public. However, there was no restrictions to normal tourists who were permitted to ride up to the ski slopes.

A number of complaints were registered on the first day of operation as people were turned away from ticket booths after long queues due to lack of spaces. People with advanced reservations were given priority over people who simply turned up on the day.

Hotel occupancy in the resort was over 50% on the Constitution weekend, set against a national average of 80% nationally in holiday spots. Cetursa admitted that the doubts over whether the resort would open on time this winter caused many people to look for a ski weekend elsewhere.

However, the entire station has been upgraded over the summer and a new lift installed (called the Borreguiles teleski route) designed relieve congestion on the very popular Veleta-Borreguiles-Río piste.
