Ronaldo ‘Honoured’ In Nativity Scene
November 20th, 2009 - Chris MarshallThe Spanish love their Nativity scenes, as I found out when I went to photograph Pacos Nativity Scene last year.
He explained to me then the tradition of having one of the figures displayed having a poo caganer. Apparantly it is an honour to be shwon in this way, as Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid has just found out!
The ‘caganer’ characters are said to bring good luck to Catalan nativity scenes, and all of them have one, generally hiding in the corner. Being depicted in this way is far from being an insult, but more a curious recognition of fame. Last year more than a few Barack Obama’s could be found in similar pose
