Locals demand resignation of El Ejido Mayor

December 3rd, 2009 - Chris Marshall

Hardly a surprise, in fact the only real surprise expressed locally here in Almerimar is that it took so long for them to get caught!

A new association was presented in El Ejido on Wednesday, whose president, Manuela Maldonado, said has come out of growing concerns locally over the ‘Operación Poniente’ corruption case which saw the Town Hall searched and 20 suspects taken into custody. They include the Mayor, Juan Enciso.

The association has asked for meetings with El Ejido’s Acting Mayor, Ignacio Berenguel, and with the leaders of all other political parties in an attempt to clarify the true effect the corruption which has been uncovered has had on the Town Hall and its management. They also say the Mayor, who remains in prison after being refused bail, should immediately present his resignation.

Resignation followed by public flogging I think!
