El Ejido: Let There Be Light!

November 16th, 2009 - Chris Marshall

Keeping the streets of El Ejido lit last year cost each individual 8€’s! El Sur (the municipal services company) invoiced El Ejido Townhall 100.000€ for “surveying public lighting to ensure bulbs were working correctly”, which can’t be hard. Look out the window and you can generally tell if one is working or not!

There are 5.769 street lamps in El Ejido it seems, and the contract was to check them each 10 times a year. Now by my maths that would be 57.690 checks, at a cost of 0.5769€ per look check.

This cost was only part of the 618.258€ “electrical services” cost for last year, so about 15%.

For those interested the break down of street lights by type in El Ejido is:

  • Wall fixed: 1.609
  • Overhead: 1.550
  • Poles: 2.610

Popularity: 1%
