El Ejido electrical plan cost double what it should
December 6th, 2009 - Chris MarshallI bumped into a friend in the week, asked him how he got on and had to smile at his response: “it has been pretty quiet since my boss got put in prison!”. Of course it wasn’t funny, and in his case it certainly isn’t. He has moved over to Spain, learnt the language, got a job with what you would think was a reputable company, and started a family. Now he is really struggling and while we (me included) write with a certain glibness about the corruption scandal relating to the El Ejido 20, it certainly isn’t funny and meeting up with my friend mde me realise just how devastating the fall out has been on many innocent ‘bystanders’ in this situation.
Haveto say I wasn’t at all surprised, but it still made me mad, to read about the latest investigation this time involving a company called Dieesa, whichwas sub contracted by the council to deliver their electric plan. The link? Elsur are the majority shareholder in Dieesa.
Seems that tha basis of the investigation is the award of a 88€m contract to upgarde and develop the electric network in El Ejido that actually cost 40m€ – and that cost actaully had to be paid by the owners of properties that wanted to be connected, at vastly inflated prices as you would expect!
Questions remain about the legality and safety of the network, as many objections and recommendations were ignored by the mayor and his merry men in their greed to fill their pockets with no regard for anyone or anything.
