Almerimar Tourism Plan

November 22nd, 2009 - Chris Marshall

Plan what plan I hear you cry ….. I have exceptionally good hearing you know!

Ah I say, you know the plan – the one that knocked down the three hotels on the beach, that has seen the original Golf Hotel sitting as a shell for two years, and has seen the Apartment Hotel selling of apartments left right and centre.

The same plan that sat back and did nothing when Monarch stopped flying into Almería this winter (do you see any of their signatures on the petition?).

The plan that promised FREE music events every week during the summer.

“Oh” I now hear you go; by plan you meant that load of old b******s that they talked about ages ago but did nothing about.

Yes ….. that is the one!!!

Anyway it seems that the Almerimar Merchants Association is contunuing the battle to boost tourism in Almerimar. The association’s president, Mari Carmen Rovira, recently took the opportunity to ask about the Tourism Revitalization Plan during a meeting held last Wednesday with the mayor in office, the spokesman Ignacio Berenguel and the government team and mayor of Urbanism, Adela Canton.

And the answer was …..

We do not know the state of the plan and therefore will answer at the meeting in January

I am assuming that is January 2010, but wouldn’t like to swear to it.

Appears that the mayor responsible for the area of tourism in El Ejido was not present during the meeting between Almerimar associations and government team, although, according to Rovira, “there was room for Mari Carmen Fernandez because in the table were many free seats’.

The association’s president, Mari Carmen Rovira, seems to be getting fed up: “total passivity and inactivity have done nothing so far” by the Government of PAL with neighbors and employers in the ejidense urbanization. Rovira explains, “in Almerimar we need more basic infrastructure to provide services and to offer more than just sun and beach. As he emphasized, “We ask this for years and I want to keep up with everyone, or behind or ahead.” Among the proposals ‘forgotten’ as he recalled the president of this group, are parks, banks, exercise or sports where the only applied weekly Sunday market.
