27.000 Euros For A Zebra Crossing!

November 11th, 2009 - Chris Marshall

No, it wasn’t a pedestrian crossing in Dubai or anywhere exotic like that, the crossing in question was in El Ejido ……… so you know what is coming next!!!

Yep, one of our old faourites El Sur are in the news again. In case you have forgotten El Sur is owned by one of the El Ejido Poniente Crowd, so I guess no surprise that a pedestrain crossing that would normally cost around 2.000€ was invoiced at 27.000€

There is an invoice for 27,000 euros dated March 13, 2006 for the construction of a raised pedestrian crossing at an El Ejido street. Having revised the invoice, El Ejido Town Hall lowered the amount to 24,509 euros. According to Elsure 304.17 staff hours were spent on the crossing; the equivalent of one worker working eight hours a day for more than 38 working days. To make matters even more ridiculous, there is an additional cost for two ‘officials’ for a combined total of 295 hours (19 days each) and also a special builder for another 51 hours (6 days). In total, the labour cost alone for this crossing cost the Town Hall 8,563.79 euros.
