La Bahia

March 12th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

La Bahia is sometimes referred to as the ‘New Bahia’ as it has moved location from Darsena 1, and is now where for years El Farol was, in The Square of Almerimar.

I had called in for coffee before, but since it re-opened had not tried any of the food until we called in on Monday initially to support the book sale. We then had a coffee, followed by a beer and as some more friends joined us, this turned into a longer stay and almost lunch!

Food-wise we started off with a late second breakfast; mine was a mere tostada with butter and jam, but Chris enjoyed a very good bacon tostada sandwich. The beer drinkers then enjoyed a good selection of tapas, which was mainly deep-fried, but it certainly seemed to hit the spot and was accompanied by some good potato salad.

I decided to check out the rest of the menu for future reference, and found what to me was a good traditional English pub menu, with the addition of lots of breakfast options; Breakfast ranged from simple toast and tostadas to a full English and included black pudding and kippers; main meals at around 6€ included gammon, egg and chips, cottage pie, chilli, liver and bacon and burgers. In addition roast beef and chicken is on offer every Sunday lunchtime. The daily special was a little less English, on Monday being Cajun chicken.

Overall La Bahia is very friendly and welcoming, well located in The Square, and seems to offer good English style pub food at a very reasonable price.

Was certainly a good bacon sandwich - 3 rashers of English bacon for 3.50€

Problem was I then got into the mood, and didn’t get home until gone 8pm :-(
