Is Good To Be Back …….
April 25th, 2008 - Chris MarshallIt is good to be back in Almerimar, especially as I have no plans to travel again in the near future (well there is an outside chance I will be in Dubai again for two weeks in June) but as that is pretty remote I am pretending it isn’t a possibility at all!
One of the things that I had missed the most (Sands, Moreno and Saidi apart of course) was the impromptu nature of life here. I tend to take it for granted until it happens which is exactly what happened on Wednesday night …..
I need to go back a day first. Tuesday evening I was happily beached out on the sofa watching the Liverpool v Chelsea Champions League semi-final, and looking forward to doing the same on Wednesday evening for Barcelona v Man Utd. I was sort of considering going down to the marina to watch the game on Wednesday with some friends as Spain v England is always good fun. Anyway my semi slumber was broken by a phone call from a client/friend saying they wanted to catch up Wednesday afternoon so could they pop round …..
Back to the day in question, Wednesday afternoon comes around and Kris from The Long Way Round came round to look at the design of the new site we are doing, talk about the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) that I am doing, and discuss some great affinity and franchise deals that we have set up for them.
‘Meeting’ over he suggested a beer with the latest group of riders that they have over, the majority of whom are returning for a second time, which is a very common event with their business. Anyway before we did that we called round to see Maria, Emma and Daisy, there newly rescued stray dog that they have literally just saved from the streets. Had a couple of beers as you do watching the sun start to dip down and then headed down to the Marina with Kris for a few Guinness’s at Mac Gowens.
I thought that was it for the night and was considering heading home to watch the football, or go to watch it in a bar, when the next thing I know I am in Al-rruz ordering a meal for 9 of us. Salad, Tortilla, Empanada, Croquettes, and the house special steak that you cook at the table, followed by Creme Brulee for a few of the guys.
Oh and a huge amount of red wine, and I seem to recall some Rose and White floating around as well.
Sands came down to rescue me towards the end but that coincided with Maria and Emma turning up as well (had been a male only dinner which is another thing I like about Spain - is normal for a group of men to go out and enjoy a proper meal i.e. not a drunk curry), so more wine was consumed before I finally headed home.
Add the above to the excesses of the trip to Dubai and a general lack of sleep and I didn’t get up until 3pm on Thursday!!!!!
Now though it is time to get my head down, avoid the distractions of the marina for a while and get on with some work as I have some really cool stuff to be getting on with!
