Interesting Structure On Levante Beach

July 23rd, 2009 - Chris Marshall

Any suggestions as to what this new structure is on the Levante Beach (picture below)? It appeared a couple of days ago and looks a pretty solid/permananent structure, certainly expect it to be here for the whole of the summer.

It is located opposite El Espignon inbetween the showers/toilets and the sea. When I first saw it I was expecting them to finish it off the next day, but the next day has been and gone and it is still basically a shelter. That in fact is probably all it is, a shelter from the sun while you dry off and change.

Asked Paco at La Barbera what it was when we were having breakfast and he had no idea, just shrugged gave me a no se and carried on chatting!

I reckon you are right, looks like it is just a shelter to get changed under.

Just updated this post as there is now one on the Poniente beach as well as the Levante beach.

Am pretty sure they are just shaded areas with a wooden floor for people wanting to dry off and change after showing.

Waiting for confirmation that they are in fact for people with wheelchairs, which would be a really good move!!! Makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Heard this morning that the new structure by the Espigon is for disabled people to sit in the shade in their wheelchairs with immediate access to the showers and toilets.I think that is very ‘forward’ thinking on behalf of the TownHall and I must admit I have never seen anything like it back in the UK.

Yep, that is a GREAT idea!!! As ever, you have to smile that they don’t exactly broadcast the fact do they LOL

Noticed yesterday that the Poniente beach structure now clearly signed on the structure that it is for disabled …. only a month after there were constructed :-)

Over the month I have seen a number of wheelchair users in benefiting from the structures, but in general thay seem to be used by people just wanting to get some shae from what has been a very hot August to say the least!
