Information on UK Pensions

May 10th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Thanks to Richard for sending this information through regarding pensions for Expats in Spain

I have been reading that In April 2009,the UK government will be reducing the number of years which expatriates can pay in order to enhance their UK state pension despite having not kept their pension up to date during these years it is still currently possible to bring one’s record up to date. The approval by parliament of the pension Act means that a full pension can received following only 30 years of contributions .Being still able to catch up all the years since 1996 means that contributions in respect of 13 years can still be made but this will fall to six years in 12 month’s time . A UK expatriate living but not working in Spain would have to pay £5,000 but this would result in an additional £3,000 pounds pension per year for a married couple. A person contributing to the Spanish Social Security system would only have to pay £2,500 to receive the same additional pension. The pension received represents a huge return on one’s money The UK government will not be littl!

Following the article about UK pensions this information may be useful to pensioners claiming additional benefits relating to disability, mobility or carers allowances. As a result of a recent landmark case in the European Court of Justice the rules regarding certain claims have been changed by the Department of Work and Pensions and it is certainly worth checking out their web site at http://www.direct.gov.uk/disability.
