In Praise Of 3 Points – Premiership Week 13
November 16th, 2008 - Chris Marshall5-0 Man Utd is the headline result this week, even though Stoke are my 3rd team in the Premiership this year, but to me the real winner this season has been the long awaited effect of the three points for a win!!
Rod Little writes a load of crap a lot of the time, but I thought he was spot on today when he wrote about the effect that the 3 points for a win is finally having on teams. By way of comparison he stated where teams would be if it was still 2 points for a win, but the real thrust of his argument was that with the league so close this year 3 points is even more crucial then ever, so teams are going all out for the three points, home and away.
I have to say that after watching the very entertaining 2-2 draw between Hull and Man City I think he has it spot on (not so sure same could be said for the Everton v Boro draw as I fell asleep which maybe says it all!!). There have been less draws this year c25% rather than c33% of games and as a result there are less points separating the bottom 14 teams than ever before.
