I Cruz de Mayo Almerimar
April 23rd, 2008 - Chris Marshall
Updated since original post with this information from Inés:
The cross will be in Plaza Batel (in the grass in front of ‘Gourmet’, ‘Al-rruz’ and ‘Mcgowan’s’) from Thursday, 1st to Sunday, 4th . There will be chinese lantern and decoration in all the bar and restaurants in the plaza. Every day, from 13h to 15h in the afternoon and from 20h to 22h in the evening, for everybody that comes around to see the cross, they get a glass of Sangria.
Because there will be other crosses in El Ejido, Santa Mª del guila, Las Norias, etc., the people of the Ayuntamiento choose the best, or the more beautiful. The people of the Ayuntamiento will come Saturday, 3rd about 18h in the evening to see the cross, and later (I think next week), will choose which win.
Here a link where you can see the fiesta of ‘Las Cruces de Mayo’ in Córdoba. Try to translate it!!
Thanks to Richard at Alcor for passing us this leaflet and Inés at Al-rruz for explaining the background to the event. Each year in Andalucia in May many towns produce a decorative cross, and the town with the best cross receives a prize. This year for the first time Almerimar is taking place thanks to Juan at Restaurant Gourmet. A number of businesses (see below) have donated 50€ to the creation of the cross.
As you can see a number of our advertisers have contributed to the event, so thanks to them:
