Heading Back To The UK To Pick Up Road King Classic
February 24th, 2009 - Chris MarshallI have just booked the flights and ferry for a quick trip back to the UK in May to pick up the Road King Classic.
I am flying back from Almería on Thursday May 14th departing at 12.30pm and arriving in Manchester at 2.30pm. Not checking any bags in as have riding gear at my parents in Stoke on Trent, so the total cost of the flight is 67,18€, which is a tad on the expensive side compared to some of the current deals, but given that it is May, and the convenience of the flight time (Sands can drop me off at the same ties as she picks her mum up ….. see below) it isn’t too bad.
I am hoping to pop into Stockport when I land to pick up some oil and stuff so that I can service the bike on the Friday, and give it a good run out, maybe to the dealership in Chester. I want to get a Sat Nav for the bike, probably the Garmin Zumo 550, but I am not sure if I will have time to get it fitted.
Saturday I will probably take it easy, catch up with some friends, spend time with my parents before heading back on the Sunday.
Looking at the options and weighing up the costs, time etc I have decided to give the Ferry a go this time, specifically the Plymouth to Santander. It boards at 4pm on Sunday 17th and arrives at 12.30pm on the Monday (18th) so is one night on board (booked the cheapest option, a reclining chair cause on this trip I am a tough biker right!!!). That means I will ride back down through Madrid, where I will probably stop for the night as no way can do that whole trip in the time I will have on the Monday. Cost of the ferry is £113 which is very reasonable especially when you take into account the cost of petrol on the bike, and the overall saving in time.
Should be home lunch time on the Tuesday, in time to spend a few days with sands mum who is coming over to see her on the 14th until the 22nd.
Plan to Tweet, Qik and blog the journey in some detail so you have been warned, and if anyone wants to hook up for some or part of the trip you are more than welcome!
