Happy Birthday Google
September 7th, 2008 - Chris MarshallGoogle is 10 years old today!! ‘To Google’ is a recognizable verb in todays society. ‘To Be Googled’ isn’t as painful as it sounds, but ‘To Google Oneself’ is a little sad (see below).
Yesterday I wrote briefly about Google Chrome and this got me thinking about Browsers, and in particular who uses what. I am a bit of a Browser Junkie, and I tend to allocate a Browser to a client or project so at the moment I am using on the Mac:
- Camino for Almerimar Life stuff
- Firefox for sites that I keep an eye on daily
- Opera for a project
- Flock for a couple of clients
- Safari for research
On Windows I use Firefox, Google Chrome, and to check that web site development etc works on it Internet Explorer, but that is the only reason I use it. From time to time I come across a site that will only accept IE, but to be honest I try and avoid dealing with such companies. My view is that if they are so antiquated technically to only use IE that is probably the same about their products and services!!!
As far as Googling yourself it is sad, but I recently did it!!! A friend of Sands got in touch with her after several years. Apparently she found us by Googling my name. Apparently I came up Number 2 on google.com. It is true, I checked ……….. of course Google is a ‘moving feast’ so rankings change all the time, but it was a weird feeling!!!
If you fancy leaving a comment with the browser or browsers that you use that would be a great help with something I am working on at the moment.
