Golf In Almerimar 3

January 24th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

In my last post ‘Golf In Almerimar 2′ I clarified the latest voucher deals for members of the San Miguel golf society, but for new members or golfers completely new to the area, I thought it may be a good idea to say something about the friendly golf matches.

These are a great way for visitors and new residents to join in with the golfing community here, and meet new people to play with. They are organised by local golfers and take place every Tuesday and Friday. Anyone is welcome to take part as long as they are staying in the Almerimar area and have a valid handicap.

Entry lists are put up on the notice board outside the pro shop each week and are taken down about 5.00pm the night before the competition. So entry is easy; you just need to put your name and handicap on the list and turn up in good time for the start of the competition.

Each player pays their own green fee as normal and then pays just 5 euros extra to the organisers for the day, to cover prizes. Through the summer the competitions tend to be relaxed mixed team events, and everyone wins a prize; a bottle of something or for the last place team some chocolates each (and some gentle ribbing). During the winter the Friday competition continues in the same way, while the Tuesday competition becomes slightly more serious and takes the form of individual stableford competitions for men and women with the entries fees being returned as prizes.

For keen golfers used to a club atmosphere in the UK, this is a good substitute, and well worth trying as from my limited experience of golfing events here, everyone is very friendly and welcoming to new faces, and you don’t have to be a star to join in!

About Almerimar

Almerimar is located in the region of Andalucia, Spain. The nearest airport is 30km away in Almeria. Other airports that are within 3 hours include Malaga, Murcia, Granada, and Alicanti. Other holiday resorts in the region include Mojacar , Aguadulce and Roquetas de Mar

Almerimar is a great place to live as an expat amongst the expats, or to work amongst the Spanish. There are all kinds of properties including villas, apartments and town houses for rent or sale. It is a very traditional part of Spain, with traditional Spanish foods so if you plan to travel to Spain either to look for jobs, for your company to trade with companies in Spain, or to learn Spanish and enjoy the Spanish weather then come and take a look.

Is a shame (but correct) that we can’t click on the Google Ads on the site (it is against the terms to click on Ads on your own site) as the Golf Score one looks pretty interesting ……….
