Golf Course Improvements
June 2nd, 2007 - Chris MarshallWithout doubt one of the main features of Almerimar after the marina itself is the golf course.
Over the last year or so they have been upgrading it, adding a third 9 holes and re-structuring and re-turfing the original 18. At last after 6+ months the 9 holes in front of our apartment are starting to show some green on the greens.

The 8th green – now an ‘island green’
We both play golf, but are not golfers, in that it is not a passion or a priority for us. The course is primarily targeted at tourists so it can be very difficult to get a T time, even when it isn’t busy as the hotel tends to block out the popular times ‘just in case’.
It is a reasonably tough course but the new 9 is very new, with very little by way of scenery, trees, or real hazards. It also, in my opinion, opened too early and is already suffering. The 9 that they have already re-surfaced and opened is OK, but not significantly better than it was before.

Our view of the golf course and the marina
As residents we have the option of buying vouchers, although for how much longer I am not sure, as every year it seems to get harder and harder, and more and more expensive. In fact this year a combination of the cost, poor state of the course and the attitude and poor management of the course in general meant that we didn’t buy any vouchers. We belong to the local ’society’ known as San Miguel so we can get a number of rounds at a reduced rate if we want, but to date we haven’t played at all this year. No doubt we will at some stage.
