Golf Buggy Woes

November 26th, 2008 - Addicted To Golf

Thought I would share with you the latest news regards the future of golf buggies on the course. It looks like once the clubhouse is completed (when that will be is anyones guess!!!) the white, privately owned buggies are not going to be allowed on the course. Not 100% certain why but I think it is because all buggies have to be stored at the course and they will all be under ground at the new clubhouse so they don’t want petrol ones.

They are saying they will ‘do a deal’ on the green ones they own when the leases run out, but it all has the sniff of unnecessary politics to me …….

Elsewhere, the Bahía San Miguel Competition last Sunday was good fun, with special congrats to Penny!!! The AGM is this week on the 28th at the aR Almerimar Hotel.

Also, I was talking to Inés in your local haunt Al-rruz the other day and she said that they might be hosting one of the Golf Dinners soon which no doubt will be excellent and please you ……

Ha ha ….. I was in Al-rruz last night and was talking to Penny who said that her golf was improving. She certainly had a happy look on her face …….

Inés mentioned the possibility of the golf dinner so hopefully you guys will go and have the usual great time.

The buggies seems just another case of bureaucracy to me. Am sure there are some safety issues but surely they could be overcome IF they wanted to …… just one more nail in the coffin is how I see it for the ‘local’ golfers, they really don’t want you guys you know :-)

Interesting it doesn’t seem to be just Almerimar Golf Course that is banning petrol buggies according to this article (would have left a comment there but you have to be registered …… what type of system is that!!!).

It looks like Playa Serena are planning to build a new buggy park to the left of the 10th fairway rather than keep buggies underneath the club. Also, there is some discussion about the club owning buggies and leasing them out to members rather than members keeping their own buggies at the club.

Apparently there are significant issues to do with insurance for the club that is making them consider these changes.

So probably the end of the petrol buggies there as well.

Wow …… the AGM was amazingly (drum roll) BORING!!!

When will people learn that 99% of life isn’t open to debate??? So they are putting up the prices by 2% FACT Discussing it will bring the price down? WRONG!!!!

Interesting that the society is now actively looking for new members (fee 100€ still) as only a couple of years ago membership was closed so speculation is that the numbers have dropped significantly. They have sorted out some good deals including a joint package with the same number of rounds at La Envía, Alboran and Playa Serena for a fixed price per round any time of the year, and a summer deal at Playa Serena (where I think a lot of us will be playing a LOT more next year)
