Frustrating Fish Counter

May 23rd, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

This isn’t really a moan, as everyone is very friendly while you wait, noone pushes in, and if I spoke more Spanish I would be able to pass the time of day. However I do find it slightly frustrating queueing for prawns and salmon fillet while the counter staff clean and gut countless fishes for the Spanish customers. I have said lots of times that I like the less sanitised was of life over here, but I can’t quite understand why the fish counters don´t have some fish ready cleaned as they would have in the UK. Has anyone actually seen a Spanish person buy a fish that isn´t then cleaned? If not then I rest my case. Anyway the answers for my frustration are to work on my Spanish and buy more whole fish myself, so that I don’t feel like saying ‘please can I go first? I only want a few prawns!’ Of course until I speak more Spanish I can’t say that anyway!!! Finally a definite tip is NOT to attaempt the fish counter on a Friday morning.
