Expat Pensions Abroad

December 15th, 2007 - Sandra Marshall

I found this a really comprehensive article, clarifying the pension situation for expats who retire abroad. All seems to be well within the EEA (European Economic Area), but as outlined in previous articles, outside the EEA things are a little more problematic.

“Expats may have left British shores either temporarily or permanently, but there are still some state benefits you may be entitled to. The most common one is the state pension - if you have moved abroad and have already reached state pension age, then this will continue to be paid to you.”

The article outlines your entitlement but also gives advice on what you actually have to do when moving abroad, and where to get further information.

As well as pensions it also discusses other benefits including Winter Fuel Allowance and Jobseeker’s Allowance.
