Easing Ahead – Premiership Week 26

February 24th, 2009 - Chris Marshall

Another good week for United, helped in no small part by the disruptions at Liverpool and Chelsea. Chelsea to befair didn’t let it effect them and rarely do, but Benitz must be thick!!! Does he really think saying he wont sign his contract at this stage is a good way of helping the team. For me that his third and fina ‘cock up’ that proves they wont win the league. The three are:

  1. Rant at Fergie ….. Fergie won that easily
  2. Selling Keene …… not exactly scoring a lot of goals at the moment are they
  3. Politics ….. he is playing a dangerous game with his contract negotiations

Was good to see Stoke get a point but it should have been 3!!! Hull really messed up throwing away a lead against Spurs, but with the teams below them all struggling they should still be OK.

Agree that Rafa has blown it, wouldn’t rule out Chelsea yet though.

  2. Chris Marshall Says:

Reluctantly I would have to agree!

  3. Francis Says:

Even some of the Liverpool fans are incredulous at Rafa’s decision making. I fall into the ‘back him still’ category. Getting rid of him now is not the answer – it is still a pivotal stage in the season. Besides, who would be able to come in and steer the ship (not quite a sinking ship) any better?
Lets just see how things go tonight (hopefully with Gerrard), and re-assess at Easter. Perhaps the Premiership is a lost cause, but I think that there are still a few surprises to occur between now and May.

The fat lady hasn’t even chosen which corset to wear, never mind cleared her throat!!!

la esperanza es lo último que se pierde!

  4. Chris Marshall Says:

Oh as a true fan you always have to have hope. I wouldn’t sack him either, but i would withdraw the contract offer and see what he had to say about that, and I would certainly assume he wasn’t going to be there next season!

I agree we still have some surprises left, not least I can see both Liverpool and Man Utd not getting past this stage of the CL

  5. Chris Marshall Says:

LOL at the fact that the bookies have suspended betting on Rafa losing his job, with many speculating he wont last beyond Sunday.

  6. Francis Says:

I think the bookies have been a bit quick to react. Why would Rafa want to go to Real Madrid?
We will take tonight’s win as a sign that he has the player’s backing. Mind you, it wasn’t the best Real team that I have seen.

    Roll on the 2nd leg.

    mucha suerte

  7. Chris Marshall Says:

I think it is more a case of Liverpool not wanting him than Real Madrid wanting him. I think he is a very ‘political’ person, that is playing a dangerous game, very badly.

Good win though, although not the best game. That said I was more interested in the red wine and Tapas in Al-rruz as you can see from the TwitPics I posted throughout the evening!

  8. Francis Says:

Just on my way out to Anfield to watch the Liverpool – villa game. It promises to be a decent game. Things are looking slightly rosier than they were a couple of weeks ago.
Fergie’s blood pressure is looking slightly elevated at the moment. Hopefully, he has got his hypertensives at hand.
    (just in case)

Maybe wayne looney could do with some anger management classes.

Still united’s title to lose, but they have a lot of games coming up in a short space of time. I’m sure it is only a slight blip (or minor wobble). They doubtlessly have everything under control.

    suerte.

  9. Francis Says:

    Not a bad performance.

    salud.

  10. Chris Marshall Says:

Seemed like it on TV and no doubt a great atmosphere? Has certainly made things more interesting, but a point ahead with a game in hand is where we were a month or so back, so no alarm bells yet.

The Fat Lady may be clearing her throat again though for ‘Walk Alone’ :-)

Please tell me, Can you tell me, I wonder if you might speculate as to which team do you fancy to win the 2010 Premiership ?
