Dynamic Toning

April 4th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

OK so it’s at least 5 years since I was heavily into going to the gym and doing classes, back at the David Lloyd Club in the UK. In the meantime I’ve done lots of running, hit the gym in America when I was there, and tried to keep up with my Pilates. However I’m now getting back into toning classes at my new gym, and things have certainly changed. I can remember 30 mins of tough aerobics before lying down to do legs and stomach on the mats. Today’s class was great but until the last 5 mins or so we did NO lying down. We even did some rather ‘interesting’ exercises for our obliques standing up, and leaning to the side whilst lifting one leg. I can’t fault the class for aerobic exercise and toning, and it is definitely fun in a masochistic kind of way BUT you really do have to be up for it, as there is no chance to ‘flop’ half way through, after a late night for instance!

Yes, it is hard work. Not only do we not get a breather but i’m constantly reminded of just what a struggle it is - being faced with myself in the wall to wall mirror!
My saving grace is keeping an eye on the clock and thank goodness for that view out of the window.
    Ready for pilates tomorrow?
