Charity appeal to teens

January 9th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

This just struck me as something that was really worth promoting.

Charities are seeking feedback from young people in a bid to make their websites youth friendly

Hundreds of young volunteers from across the country are being sought for a one-day project to make charity websites more appealing to young people.

Volunteering England (VE) is looking for 16 to 25-year-olds to help more than 20 national and international charities “youth proof” their websites.

The volunteers will be asked to log on to the websites on February 26 and give feedback on whether they are easy to navigate, use clear language and present the right image to attract young people.

The project coincides with Student Volunteering Week, which runs from February 25 to March 2 and gets universities and colleges involved in their local communities.

Charities signed up for the project include VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), the Choose Action Network and a number of Volunteer Centres.

Clare Davies, student volunteering development officer at VE, said: “The way people interact with websites is constantly evolving and charities that know how to capture young people’s attention have the edge in fundraising, recruiting volunteers and gaining awareness and support.

“I’d encourage any student or young person who has some spare time on February 26 to sign up and be part of a unique project that will help good causes benefit from their enthusiasm for user-friendly technology.”
