I Forgot

July 20th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

I forgot that when we went to the opening of La Barbera I took a photograph of a new supermarket that has opened in the row of bars etc just behind the Espignon.

I forgot to go and find out the details of the superkarket.

July 16th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

Tonight is the end of the week of celebrations for Virgen del Carmen.

This Week In Almerimar 080714

July 14th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Tonight is the official opening of La Barbera from 10.30pm onwards (well that is the current plan but this is Spain) and we have been invited by Paco so will be popping along later.

The celebrations for Virgen del Carmen continue until Wednesday, and this year we had another ‘no show’ by the Beatles Tribute band as Sands suggested after her Saturday morning gossip.

As you know I am a big Harley fan and am lucky enough to have a Fat Boy over here. We also have a Road King Classic back in the UK that I will now be bringing down to Almerimar (again as it used to be here).

A Week Of Celebration - Virgen Del Carmen In Almerimar

July 11th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Today sees the start of the weeks celebration here in Almerimar in honour of the Virgen Del Carmen. If you are unsure as to when it all starts and ends listen out for the canons!!! We are in for a loud week with canons going off morning and evening as part of the celebrations. Moreno for sure doesn’t like them, although he has got better, although Saidi doesn’t seem to mind them that much.

Jornadas Gastronómicas del Marisco

July 10th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

This started last night and is being held in a tent close to the rugby pitch, and it seems a great event for anyone into seafood and keen to try different types. My understanding is that the atmosphere is casual (almost canteen like), and that you buy tickets for the food you want which you then present to the servers. One obvious option is a plate of Oysters which would certainly tempt Chris! Sounds interesting and they are open normal restaurant hours, including lunch but observing siesta time.

The Circus (Paris Circo) Is In Almerimar

July 9th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Paris Circo

Just back from an extremely pleasant bike ride along both the West and the East beach, and through the Marina.

Cycling at 8pm is a great time as the sun is still out (but not too hot), there is a slight breeze, and there are enough people around to make it interesting.

La Barbera Official Opening Details

July 9th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

I have just had a call from Roberto with a request from Paco informing me that the official opening of the new La Barbera (The Barber) owned by Paco (formally of La Solea) will be at 10.30 pm onwards on Monday the 14th July.

Paco has requested that we attend and make a video of the opening for him, take some photographs and do a brief interview with him.

Music Tonight In Guardias Viejas - Malagasy Gospel of Madagascar

July 4th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

The summer season of music gets under way tonight in Guardias Viejas with the Malagasy Gospel of Madagascar choir. As I understand it the choir includes several blind children and has recently been invited to take the Tour of Bernabeu in Madrid.

The Foundation ‘Agua de Coco’, which is responsible for this development project in Madagascar by creating schools, community centres and libraries, has formed the ‘Gospel Malagasy’ with the aim of improving the conditions of these children, away from child labour, which this month June visit Spain.

Medieval Market This Weekend In Almerimar

July 3rd, 2008 - Chris Marshall

The Medieval Market was in Almerimar twice last year, on the 15th July and the 16th August. Apart from the usual ‘can’t believe another year’ has gone by statement, it is good that it is early this year as we will be able to show the girls.

In the meantime they (and you) can take a look at the pictures from last July and August

This Week In Almerimar 080630

June 30th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Well last week was all about the Football and drinking , with no exercise at all, so it will be hard to beat that this week!!

Actually not 100% accurate as I did start playing tennis again, so intend to do that at least a couple of times a week, and mad as it seems in this weather I am going to be jogging and cycling again very soon.

Spain v Germany The Final In Al-rruz

June 27th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Updated - We popped in today (Saturday) to say happy birthday to Inés and she allowed us to reserve a couple of places at the bar for some friends, so you may want to call in and have a drink and do the same?

Spain v Russia In Al-rruz

June 25th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

I am sure you know the drill by now! Turn up, wear your t-shirt, drink a lot, eat GREAT tapas, have a great evening!!! See you there.

Feria y Fiestas De San Isidro

June 25th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Today is the first day of the Feria y Fiestas De San Isidro taking place in El Ejido between the 25th and 29th June.

San Isidro is the patron saint of Madrid and in the world of bullfighting San Isidro marks the start of the capital’s season and is the world’s largest event which attracts all the top bullfighters and bull breeders.

I thought I would ask Inés about this as she is from Madrid:
