Busy Saturday Night - Medieval Market, Coco Beach & Music Bars

July 6th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Evening started with a very pleasant BBQ on the balcony with the girls and then around 10.30 we made our way down to the Marina.

It was really tough to park - a combination of the Medieval Market and the fact that the Marina was really busy. Anyone that knows the Medieval Market will know that last July it was in its ‘usual’ place in Dársena 2, but in August it moved to the outskirts of the marina as the port authority refused it permission. This didn’t go down very well with the local bars and restaurants, and although it was nice and compact it was good to see it back in Dársena 2 this year where it has always been - this is now a well establish tradition in Almerimar that we have enjoyed since the very first one and it belongs in Dársena 2!!!!

As we were walking through the marina we bumped into a friend who said that it was packed and he wasn’t wrong. It was busier than we have ever seen it, and just proves that if you really understand Spain you take your time, don’t rush, and join in at the times that the Spanish do things. We spent a very pleasant couple of hours walking around the stalls (all the usual ones were there as you would expect), buying a few gifts and treats, and enjoying the huge amount of English and Spanish friends that we bumped into. Everyone seemed of the same opinion - it gets better each year and is well worth supporting. It was definitely very busy, with a great atmosphere, and still buzzing when we left after midnight!

The girls had a great time, spent their money and want to go back later this afternoon to have another look, they were that impressed with it.

The girls bought some jewellry, got tempted by some of the hand painted crafts (pots, vases, pictures etc) and couldn’t resist the chocolate cake!

Next up we took a walk along the beach to Coco Beach where Horacio greeted us as old friends - the girls have been really amazed at how friendly everybody has been - and remembered our drinks order from the previous evening. This time the fruit he gave us wasn’t frozen, but was chilled and sitting on a bed of ice. Equally as refreshing and very pleasant indeed. The DJ had some good tunes going on his Notebook, with the odd vinyl record thrown in for good measure, and while it wasn’t busy it seems to be getting busier.

Final port of call was the ‘music bars’ which were starting to get very busy (and noisy) with the ‘beautiful people of El Elido and Almerimar - there were some very attractive sites to be seen!!! One feature of the music bar area in the summer is the large amount of youngsters who come down with their own booze and hang out on the wall at the back, partying and having a good time but causing no trouble and in no way threatening or intimidating.

Back home sometime after 3 to play with Moreno and Saidi and then crash - a perfect evening in Almerimar
