It would be interesting to see what the turnout is for the spectacle. I also wonder what the overall opinion of the spanish throughout the area.

The population of El Ejido seems very mixed and varied to me. Perhaps they will make the event a success, leading to further events.

I wonder what the difference in culture is between the regions of Spain where bull fights are banned, and those where it is still accepted (ie. El Ejido)

Yep. I have been thinking too and have gone right off the idea of going. I don’t think I am curious enough about Spanish tradition to go to something that seems so cruel.

Hmmm got me thinking!

Alberto told me ages ago that if I ever wanted to go to a Bull Fight I should go to one of the big ones where the Bulls are better, the Matador’s more skillful, and the ‘event’ much better. Still doesn’t take away from the above sentiments at all, but is making me think that maybe a small local ‘fight’ might not be the best way of seeing what would in all probability be my first and last event.

Bull Fight
I am glad to say that the WorldWild life people are trying very hard to get Bull Fighting banned - where does the expression Bull Fighting come into it? the Bull really has very little fight left in him at the end of the day -why dont they just slaughter him humanely and then eat him if that is what you want to do.It never ceases to surprise me that the Spanish people take their children to watch this disgusting spectacle.

I have to agree with you! It really has no appeal at all, and I certainly think that it is barbaric, cruel and unnecessary.

I can also see the point put forward that ‘when in Rome’, and I am certainly guilty of not paying enough attention to what was going on around me when I was working full time, and as a result know that I missed out on some of life’s experiences that wont come my way again.

Sad to learn that El Ejido is having a bull fight. This barbaric sport is banned in some parts of Spain and I for one will not be going. Almost without exception I love many things about living in Spain but fail to understand how civilised people can watch the ritual slaughter of animals for sport. Their justification that it is part of their culture is grossly misleading. Is there any differance between bull fighting and say bear baiting, dog fighting, fox hunting or even child abuse? All are without the victim´s consent.
