Britain Overtakes The US

January 10th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

Ok here’s one for Britons at home and expats alike: “For the first time in more than a century the standard of living in Britain is higher than in America, according to a new report. Analysts at the respected Oxford Economics consultancy say that increasing incomes, free healthcare and longer holidays make the average Briton better-off than his or her US counterpart.”

According to the research UK living standards have been steadily catching the US since 2001, and in addition average incomes are now 8% higher than in France and Germany too.

One slight cautionary note is that because ‘goods and services’ are still cheaper in the US, people there may actually feel richer than we Brits. SO the ideal answer seems to be to get paid in the UK, shop in the US, and live elsewhere, like here in sunny Spain That’s my tip for the day … you heard it here first!
