Boris Wins - Europe Beware!

May 6th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Boris Johnson is a little like Marmite, I guess you either love him or hate him. I think he is a star!!! Love his attempts to host Have I got News ….., and think he writes a great column in the Telegraph.

Anyway while the UK, and London in particular, steals itself to be ‘Borrised’ it seems that Europe is taking notice as well:

A beaming new Boris smiles out and salutes from many a European newspaper, but I don’t think they are giving his victory the space that they should. (BBC)

The attention now seems to be turning to the fact that after Boris we may get Dave:

If David Cameron becomes the next British Prime Minister, it could mean a profound change in the relations with the European Union. Although he clearly doesn’t want Europe to be one of the high profile campaign issues, it will be forced up the agenda.

This is evident in particular in Spain, with Spain’s El Pais proclaiming that David Cameron is on course for Downing Street. Cameron has previously tried to form a new political grouping within the European Parliament (last year) and failed, and it will be one of his first big decisions (as PM) whether to occupy the first months of his first term with a high profile battle about Britain’s place in the European Union, or whether to disappoint supporters.

Interesting times ahead then?

Regarding Boris Johnson he is without doubt the worst type of fool ever to win an election. He didn’t really win, Ken lost it, and rightly so. Without doubt Boris is an “accident waiting to happen” and has absolutely no experience of running anything bigger than a drinks tent at the Henley Regatta which is more his style. London is undoubtably one of the most important Capital cities in the world and to have such a “buffoon” in charge is indeed very sad. He has no policies, no economic budget proposals, and certainly no understanding of the real issues in London. He does has a sense of humour and so he should judging by the way he behaves. Politics is too important to be left to incompetent right wing joy riders whose only source of information is the proper-gander spread by the Evening Standard, Telegraph and Daily Mail. It’s the press barons who won for Boris, including that “Ozzie” bloke who owns most of the press and TV media who dictates what the British voters should read and watch.

It probably was time for a change but it’s a shame it had to be someone with as much experience as a slug using a computer.

Well given what a total cock up the so called ’serious’ politicians have made how can he do any worse!!!

I reckon that he could be a great leader - someone that appoints good people and letsthenm get on with it.

Time will tell but my money is on him doing a good job!
