Beautiful Bread

March 15th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

The other day i made a great discovery at The Herbolario. I had seen a notice in the window before about Organic Bread, but on Friday there was actually some left, and even though the rye loaf was 3.85€ I really wanted to try it. I have to say I was extremely impressed; it is one of those loaves that sit heavily in your hand as it doesn’t have masses of yeast in it. The flavour was great and it was very dense and filling, actually just like the bread my ultra healthy sister produces in her bread machine! It comes special delivery from a bakery in Granada (hence the price), is made with organic flour and apart from added yeast (also organic), sal and a little water has no other additives…fantastic! Apparently it freezes well, although we have eaten our loaf over 3 days, and in addition to the rye bread there is a crustier more white looking option, that is largely integral. I know the price is high but for someone who tends to avoid bread, partcularly the over processed stuff this is a real treat. I am definitely going to order some more loaves on Monday. AND one final tip … it was delicious with some of Jenny’s scrummy Lemon Curd!
